A new show on Hulu from ABC, called “Legend of the Seeker” is your typical medieval-with-magic with EVERY cliché you can think of: a witty and comical wizard, a beautiful magic-wielding damsel, the old blind witch-doctor, the faithful fighter companion, dark evil preparing for its ruling of the world, dark mystery, good and evil, friendship and betrayal, love and hatred, protection and sacrifice, and of course the courageous hero who, armed with a book of secrets and his trusty magic sword inherits his previously-unknown heritage and destiny to save the world, single-handedly.

    And I love it.

    • I wish I could watch it, but its not in my area. I have seen an episode or two… but actually its a show thats in syndication

    • I was watching it on Hulu as each episode was released there… I absolutely loved the show. Of course it could have been done better, and there was some bad acting, and lots of cliches but… most fantasy/medieval tv shows are just horrid, and I think this is absolutely the best I’ve ever seen.

I never read the series, but something I did find interesting – there are no “Creatures” or “monsters” other than humans. Did that strike you as intriguing? Just some food for thought. Tempted to read the series now.

    • I never quite thought of it that way, but now that you mention it, yes, you’re right.

All of the other fantasy type things I’ve read or seen contain weird shadow creatures or monsters, and just the few big and bad humans that were somehow involved… usually themselves backed by a demonic god-like being.

I bought the first book a while back, Wizard’s First Rule, but I have yet to crack it open.
